Meghan Louise Pruitt and Jeffrey Dale Hillis were married at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Proctor Farm in Armuchee.
The bride is the daughter of Larry Pruitt of Cedartown and the late Anne Skiles. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hillis of Silver Creek. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Harold Hillis Sr. of Augusta, Elsie Mueller and Ann McBurnett, both of Rome and the late Clarence McBurnett.
The Rev. Danny Rhodes of Cedartown performed the double-ring ceremony. A mass arrangement of fall blossoms including Asiatic lilies, roses, chrysanthemums and berries decorated the altar. Spiral topiaries placed in garden urns framed the wedding party and vine baskets filled with fall blossoms marked the family pews. Fall leaves adorned the aisles.
A program of wedding music was performed by soloist Crystal Cordell, Blake Dodd and Robert Clarke. Selections included “When God made You” and “Amazing Love.”
Brittany Ferguson of Rockmart was the maid of honor. Nina Jackson of Cedartown was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Sabrina Teems and Jenna Hillis, both of Silver Creek, Lauren Atkins and Stacey Peek, both of Cedartown and Rhonda Green of Aragon. The maid of honor wore a strapless brocade tea-length dress with a brooch and cognac sash. The bridesmaids wore strapless ankle-length cognac satin ball gowns with ruched bodices and sweetheart necklines. The attendants carried hand-tied bouquets of Viking chrysanthemums, orange dahlias, opium red roses, and solidago accented by fall berries. Each had a memorial ribbon and pendant with a picture of the bride’s mother on her wedding day attached to their bouquets. Evie Drew Frasier of Cedartown was the flower girl.
The bride, given in marriage and escorted by her father, wore a white strapless gown with full tulle skirt and a beaded bodice. She also wore a memorial ribbon and pendant with a picture of her mother on her wedding day attached to her bouquet. The bride carried a bouquet of Sahara roses accented by hypericum and seeded eucalyptus berries tied with ivory satin. She released a dove and read a poem at the ceremony in memory of her mother.
The father of the groom was the best man. Groomsmen were Jimmy Hillis of Silver Creek, Adam Colston of Lindale, Mitch Bowles of Rome, Shane Forsyth of Rockmart, Matthew Pruitt of Cedartown and Jason Wright of Trion. Camden Ferguson of Rockmart was the ring bearer.
The mother of the groom wore a brown ankle-length, two-piece dress with gold accents. She was presented with a corsage of Sahara roses. In memory of the bride’s mother her aunt, Melinda Ferguson, carried a bouquet of fall flowers and placed them in her seat. The grandmothers were presented with corsages of Sahara roses.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Proctor Farm. Refreshments included the bride’s four-tier yellow cake with butter cream icing. Each layer was accented by fall blossoms and berries and topped with an “H” for the couple’s last name. The groom’s chocolate cake with white icing was in the shape of a billboard with the couple’s initials on top.
The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Proctor Farm. Other pre-nuptial parties included a bridal shower hosted by the bridesmaids at the home of Sabrina Teems in Silver Creek; a miscellaneous shower hosted by employees of SunTrust bank held at Piedmont Baptist Church in Rockmart; a Fiesta shower hosted by Lisa Guest, Ann McBurnett, Sandy Tuck, Linda McBurnett and Sharon Morgan at the home of Lisa Guest; a lingerie shower hosted by Kristi Dabbs at her home; a bachelorette party hosted by the bridesmaids in Atlanta and a bridal luncheon hosted by Christine Hillis at the Harvest Moon Restaurant in Rome.

“The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra filled the ballroom as the guests enjoyed the newlywed’s first dance at the beginning of the evening. Kendall chose “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder to dance with her father. After the formalities and toasts were complete, the guests were ready to hit the dance floor when we opened it. We had a great dance response the entire evening.
