Not only are the cakes special at Special Cakes by Sara downtown, but they can be …unusual, too.

Owner Sara Williams said recent orders include cakes shaped and colored like an Alaskan Malamute, Bear Bryant’s hat, a large Converse tennis shoe, and a beach scene with a Corona bottle, including a lime wedge, stuck in the sand.

“We do a lot of things other people just won’t do,” Williams said.

To put it mildly.

Special Cakes is at 319 Broad St., 706-237-6466. You can see more traditional cakes at http://www.specialcakesbysara.com/.

Lindsey Amanda Traylor and Matthew Adam Davenport, both of Rome, were married at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Silver Creek Presbyterian Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leonard Traylor III of Rome.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Davenport of Rome.

The Rev. Steve Andrews performed the double-ring ceremony on the front steps of the church. The front door was decorated with a wreath of white roses, ivy and pink hydrangea. The steps of the church were adorned with ferns and glass jars filled with floating pink hydrangea blossoms and candles. A white prayer bench was embellished with white roses, ivy and pink hydrangea. The aisle was lined with pink and white paper lanterns. The family chairs where marked by white roses, pink hydrangea and tulle.

The greeter and bridal book attendant was Emily Fountain. A program of wedding music included “Canon in D,” “Annie’s Theme,” “Practical Magic” and “Forrest Gump Suite.” Soloist Karen Andrews preformed “Find Your Wings” during the couple’s observance of communion.

The bride arrived at the ceremony crossing the bridge at Silver Creek, which was decorated with fresh magnolia, stephanotis, ivy and tulle, on a white-horse drawn carriage decorated with white and pink flowers and the driver wearing black top hat and tails.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a white taffeta dress featuring a slightly dipped front neckline and a sweetheart-shaped back neckline. A trim of pearls and beads adorned the empire waistline which was tied with a pink sash back, an A-line skirt with soft gathers and a court-length train. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of white peonies and roses, pale pink carnations with accents of green berries and tiny pink cherry blossoms wrapped in white ribbon with pearl accents. Katie Traylor of Rome, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Sara Locklear of Rome and Becky Newman of Rome. They wore strapless gowns of ice pink silky organza, tea-length skirts with pleated waists, sashes and jeweled brooches. The bridesmaids carried hand-tied bouquets of pink roses wrapped in white ribbon with pearl accents. Drew Davenport of Rome, brother of the groom, was the best man. Groomsmen were Jake and Micah Davenport, both of Rome, brothers of the groom.

The mother of the bride wore a tea-length dress of tangerine iridescent taffeta with a deep V-neckline. The natural waist was enhanced with a wide ruched band and bubble skirt. The mother of the groom wore a coral chiffon tea-length dress with a fitted bodice, wide empire waist with matching charmeuse sash and full swing skirt.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Pavilion in Rome. Refreshments included the bride’s three-tier round confection with white rolled fondant, vanilla tiers with raspberry filling embellished with the couple’s monogram and several shades of pink dahlias and green dots bordering each tier. The groom’s cake was a six-layered chocolate confection filled with chocolate mousse with chocolate butter cream and tuxedo strawberries adorning the top. The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Sumo Japanese Steakhouse.

Other pre-nuptial parties included an engagement party hosted by Steve and Dena Cowan; an around-the-house shower hosted by Cheryl Fountain, Cathy Watkins and June Tucker; a kitchen shower hosted by Pam Traylor, Frankie Traylor and Shirley Birch; a bed-and-bath shower hosted by Beck Newman, Paula Newman and Amy Jones; a couple’s shower hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Davenport; a lingerie shower hosted by Katie Traylor; a miscellaneous shower hosted by Calvary Baptist Church; a bachelorette party hosted by Sara Locklear at the Melting Pot in Atlanta and a bridesmaid brunch hosted by the bride’s mother at the Victorian Rose Tea Room.
