Going Digital

Posted in The DJ Experience by Michael ~ Leave a Comment

Finally!

After years and years of the classic compact disc we are almost digital! We have spent countless time researching, reading, and testing different systems & software related to digital DJ’ing.

We had originally purchased PCDJ Red v5.2 years ago with the intention of going digital. Our stopping point was trying to decide on a rackmount computer or laptop. At the time, laptops were still pricey and custom building a rackmount was the best option.

During the summer of 2006 we were proudly selected to “beta test” a brand spanking new digital device designed for DJs. This really sparked our interest again in going digital.

Now days, laptops have become more powerful, have lots of storage, and are now more affordable. So, in the last few months we decided to go digital using a laptop and software solution. We purchase the simple version of PCDJ Blue since the majority of our performances are weddings. It has all the features we need and seems to be simple to use. Ripping our CD library has been the biggest task and is still in process. We have been using AudioGrabber with the LAME encoder compressing to CBR-320.

Our laptop is a great Toshiba Satellite. This model features a 15.4″ diagonal WXGA TruBrite® display; a Pentium® dual-core 1.73GHz processor; 1GB memory; and a 120GB hard drive. We purchased two for backup purposes!

For music storage we are using Western Digital 250GB & 300GB hard drives mounted in external Nexxtech aluminum alloy cases via USB connection. It also has a cool blue LED on the front that shows the hard drive’s activity. The laptop stand is made by Odyssey.

We heard exciting news this past month with the announcement of the Denon DN-HC4500. The DN-HC4500 is a USB MIDI/Audio interface designed exclusively for computer performance DJs. The DN-HC4500 will also interface with our newly aquired Denon DN-X500 mixer.  Life is good! The DN-HC4500 release date is scheduled for the end of September 2007 and we’re on the preorder waiting list!

We’ll write more as we progress in our digital experience.

Wedding Experience Through BOSE

Posted in The DJ Experience by Michael ~ Leave a Comment

In the spring of 2006 we decided to invest into a single BOSE L1 Model I “classic” all-in-one amplification system. BOSE offers a 45-day return policy and we had a wedding scheduled for every single weekend during that 45-day window: a perfect opportunity to test run the system.

Our BOSE L1 system included a single Cylindrical Radiator® loudspeaker. The radiator consists of a line array composed of 24 small drivers mounted into a vertical enclosure for wide, horizontal sound coverage. What this means for our weddings: it projects clean, detailed sound evenly across the room, with little change in tone or volume, not to mention it has a very classy look compared to conventional speakers.

Our system also included a double bass package. The double B1 bass package delivers high output level than the single B1 setup and is more than adequate for our weddings.

Needless to say, we did keep our system with our 2006 calendar concluding with 27 reception performances. Besides receiving consistent compliments on the BOSE sound, it was also a great conversation piece with audio-enthused guests. Did we mention it looks really nice?

Come spring 2007 we have invested in another BOSE L1 double B1 system and the results are incredible. We are extremely pleased with this system and we are very proud to offer it to our wedding clients.

It’s a sexy looking system!

The Palladium

It’s been a while since we have assisted with a reception at The Palladium located near the Coosa Valley Fair Grounds and this past weekend we were fortunate to perform there once again. Wow! Marie & her staff have been busy taking care of things!

For this occasion, 12 round tables and two additional banquet tables were set out to accommodate approximately 120 guests; we had a spacious dance area; we were set on a 12X8 burgundy carpeted stage which was very sturdy; and there was plenty of room available for the buffet and mingling. Before the guests arrived while we were setting up, the entire staff was working hard giving the place an extra high-quality shine.

The atmosphere was perfect! The decorations, the place settings, the candle-lit dining and the recessed lighting shining through the sheer material really created a romantic mood for a celebrative evening. We especially liked the idea of spotlighting the wedding cake and placing a small stage underneath the cake table. This brought extra attention to our newlyweds as they performed their traditional cake cutting ceremony.

We are far from being “restaurant critics” but we thought the banquet was laid out very nice and had an easy traffic flow for the guests to prepare their food. The Palladium is easily accessible from any ceremony location in Rome and has plentiful parking for visitors.

We look forward to our next event at The Palladium!

Please note that the colored lighting is provided by Scott Productions.

Wedding: Katie & John

This past weekend we were honored to assist Katie & John with both their ceremony and wedding reception. Because of careful planning and several meetings, the rehearsal & ceremony were conducted beautifully and exactly as Katie had dreamed. The couple was extremely excited to having been one of the very first weddings in West Rome Baptist Church’s newly renovated sanctuary.

Shortly after the ceremony the reception promptly kicked off at The Palladium at 6PM.  Their family and guests were really cheering them on during the grand introductions leading up to their first dance, a piano arrangement of “Wonderful Tonight”.

The couple chose “Love Will Keep Us Alive” by the Eagles and “Crash” by the Dave Matthews Band as background music during their cake cutting. Amy assisted them with the setting up of poses as the photographer snapped away. The cakes were provided by Special Cakes by Sara.

Before our open dance floor, Katie danced with her father to “Last Resort” by the Eagles and John with his mother to “Mama” by Boyz II Men. With all of their friends & family joining them on the dance floor, “Faithfully” by Journey was their last song of the evening.

A week before the wedding John had called us asking for limousine recommendations so he could surprise Katie! Ringer’s Limo of Rome was his decision after our discussion on the phone. Again, the couple got more than they anticipated: Ringers transported them from the church to the reception in the classic black limo, but came back for them & their wedding party in the incredible ivory Chrysler 300M stretch! A great taste of both cars! Way to go Ringer’s!

Katie & John and their family & guests were extremely easy to entertain for and we wish them all the very best in their marriage!

Welcome to our new blog site for RomeWeddings.com and Scott Productions!

For our first post, we’d like to share a recent “thank you” note. We assisted Kim & Justin just a a week ago with their ceremony at Frost Chapel and reception at the Coosa Country Club. We love hearing back from our couples:

“Amy & Michael, Justin & I just wanted to send you a special thank you for helping us make our wedding reception unique, but fun. The music was excellent and the participation excercises were like no other wedding I’d ever been to!!! We appreciate all of your hard work and if you ever need a good reference, I’m your girl. Thank you again and it’s been a pleasure working with you both.”  -Kim & Justin
