Going Digital

Finally!
After years and years of the classic compact disc we are almost digital! We have spent countless time researching, reading, and testing different systems & software related to digital DJ’ing.
We had originally purchased PCDJ Red v5.2 years ago with the intention of going digital. Our stopping point was trying to decide on a rackmount computer or laptop. At the time, laptops were still pricey and custom building a rackmount was the best option.
During the summer of 2006 we were proudly selected to “beta test” a brand spanking new digital device designed for DJs. This really sparked our interest again in going digital.
Now days, laptops have become more powerful, have lots of storage, and are now more affordable. So, in the last few months we decided to go digital using a laptop and software solution. We purchase the simple version of PCDJ Blue since the majority of our performances are weddings. It has all the features we need and seems to be simple to use. Ripping our CD library has been the biggest task and is still in process. We have been using AudioGrabber with the LAME encoder compressing to CBR-320.
Our laptop is a great Toshiba Satellite. This model features a 15.4″ diagonal WXGA TruBrite® display; a Pentium® dual-core 1.73GHz processor; 1GB memory; and a 120GB hard drive. We purchased two for backup purposes!
For music storage we are using Western Digital 250GB & 300GB hard drives mounted in external Nexxtech aluminum alloy cases via USB connection. It also has a cool blue LED on the front that shows the hard drive’s activity. The laptop stand is made by Odyssey.
We heard exciting news this past month with the announcement of the Denon DN-HC4500. The DN-HC4500 is a USB MIDI/Audio interface designed exclusively for computer performance DJs. The DN-HC4500 will also interface with our newly aquired Denon DN-X500 mixer. Life is good! The DN-HC4500 release date is scheduled for the end of September 2007 and we’re on the preorder waiting list!

We’ll write more as we progress in our digital experience.
In the spring of 2006 we decided to invest into a single BOSE L1 Model I “classic” all-in-one amplification system. BOSE offers a 45-day return policy and we had a wedding scheduled for every single weekend during that 45-day window: a perfect opportunity to test run the system.
The upcoming Northwest Georgia Bridal Showcase produced by Scott Productions will be Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 1PM till 5PM at The Forum in downtown Rome. This will be the event you don’t want to miss!
“Amy & Michael, Justin & I just wanted to send you a special thank you for helping us make our wedding reception unique, but fun. The music was excellent and the participation excercises were like no other wedding I’d ever been to!!! We appreciate all of your hard work and if you ever need a good reference, I’m your girl. Thank you again and it’s been a pleasure working with you both.” -Kim & Justin
